PHYSICAL REPRESENTATIONS OF THE TECHNOLOGY OF THE FILMS
CALVIN SWEET'S FULL ICARUS - Calvin and I had the same idea; take the old AMT Strategic Space Command galactic cruiser "Leif Ericson" and combine it with the 3" Larsen Models "Icarus" for a full version of what the Icarus looked like.
MARK
CREIGHTON'S WILCO MODELS "ICARUS" - Mark has built up a Wilco Model's
Icarus.
DAVE
BARKOVITZ'S 1:1 SCALE ANSA FLIGHT SUIT - Dave had a private
company contracted to build him a reproduction of the ANSA flight suit.
The end result is a fantastic recreation of the white flight suit as originally
worn by Charlton Heston in the original POTA movie.
GEMINI MODEL BUILD-UP STUDIOS' "ICARUS II" - Another diorama of the crash scene featuring the second ill-fated ANSA spacecraft piloted by Skipper and seen in the second movie.
RANDY
COOPER'S "ICARUS II" - A two foot long full scratch built Icarus model
depicting the crash scene shown in Beneath The Planet of the Apes, designed and
created by a master model maker with a long list of blockbuster movies to his
credit.
DEAN
CRISTIAN'S SINKING
"ICARUS"
- A nice pair of pictures of a miniature diorama made using a small
Icarus model to represent the memorable opening scenes of the 1968 POTA
film.
DOUG
COWLES "ICARUS" - a nice buildup of the Wilco Models' kit.
ROGER'S
POTA "ICARUS" DVD CASE - here's one for you collectors
(and I wish I had one!), an ANSA "Icarus" DVD case that was sold with the
release of the DVDs. Roger shares photos of his "Icarus" case with us.
ROBERT
VANDERPOOL'S - CUSTOM "ICARUS" MODEL
- courtesy of his collection and Uncle Odie's Collectibles.
PETER FLESSAS- Peter has done some work to the "baby" Icarus by Kubrick. Peter adds a tail section and puts the model into some
artwork for you. You'll also find some of his other conversions as well
here.
BILL KING'S ICARUS-
Bill allowed me to share with you his build up of the older and no longer
available Larson Designs six inch, two piece resin Icarus.
JOSE RAMONE RUIZ DIEZ'S HAND BUILT ICARUS- I found
Jose's work on the Yahoo POTA discussion group and was amazed at his work.
I contacted him requesting his
permission to display his work here. He agreed and sent me the following
images.
ALBERTO
LOPEZ'S HAND BUILT ICARUS- Alberto sent me several pictures of his large
scale paper and card model of the Icarus. He put a lot of time and care
into this model and you will see that he has done an outstanding job! This
model even has an interior!
BILL
EARLY'S HAND BUILT ICARUS- Bill sent me the following image of his 1/22
scale, hand crafted Icarus which measures a whopping two feet long!
LES HEMSTOCK'S PRO-BUILT MIM
"ICARUS"- Les had this rather nice model of the Icarus constructed by a
UK professional and then enclosed in a sealed case. The detail is very good!
MARK LONGMIRE'S "POOR MAN'S
ICARUS"- Mark has created a pattern that when folded will reproduce some of
the more striking details of the ANSA spacecraft in paper airplane form. Enjoy!
SHANE
JOHNSON'S MIM MODIFIED "ICARUS"- Shane has done a tremendous job of
modifying the Monsters In Motion edition of the Icarus, at 1/35th scale, to the spacecraft
that we see in the first episode of the TV series, "Escape From Tomorrow".
RICHARD
TRESKEY'S THREE FOOT FULL SCRATCHBUILD "ICARUS" - initial pictures of a
work in progress, and the scale is impressive!
DAVE
BALLARD'S "NEW" ICARUS- Dave takes inspiration from Tommy Wade's merging of
the Icarus with the Narcissis escape shuttle from the movie "ALIEN" and creates
a physical model based on original artwork!
DAVE
RUTHER'S SCRATCHBUILT ICARUS- Dave submitted these two pictures of his full scratch
build of the famous splash down scene from the POTA movie.
JAN
RUKR'S THIRD PAPER MODEL- "DAMOCLES"- WRECKED ICARUS- Jan submits several
views of his next model, the wrecked ANSA spacecraft seen in the second movie, the one
known as Brent and/or Skipper's ship. Yes, this is a paper model as well.
PETER
NOBLE'S SCRATCHBUILT ICARUS- Peter has submitted these pictures of his full
scratchbuilt Icarus which also includes a detailed interior.
JAN RUKR'S SECOND PAPER MODEL- FULL ICARUS- Jan has submitted his second paper model of the Icarus. This is full Icarus vehicle as referenced to in his concept artwork. This model is also available as a download from his site.
JAN RUKR'S INCREDIBLE PAPER ICARUS MODEL- Jan appeared on the ICARUS FORUM and claimed that he had a paper model that he had constructed of the "Icarus". At first, I was dubious. Having seen the gamut of paper models, from the 'not worth the paper it is printed on' to 'Oh My God, how the hell did you make THAT out of PAPER!?" range, I have to say that Jan's model falls firmly into the latter category.
BABOONATIC'S WORK- A selection of several
large scale custom built "Icarus" models, one with a detailed interior!
MICHAEL WALKER- Michael has
refined and redefined the SKYHOOK MODELS version of the "Icarus" into something
much more. Find his excellent talent and some hints on how he did it
within.
GEORGE RUYOYIANES- George has some interesting
ideas about the Icarus posted on his site. If you like Mattel's "Major
Matt Mason" and other similar toys, you're going to love George's site.
The fact that he has a special place in his heart for the "Icarus" is just icing
on the cake. Truly a trip down memory lane for those of you who were
children before Apollo.
ARTIFEX CREATIONS "ICARUS"- Andrew Wright and Dave Ballard have done an excellent article on the buildup of a custom scratch built "Icarus."
