The STRANGEST email I have ever received...

Got this in my cache. Thought I would share with you all... Definitely the strangest and yeah, like I'm going to believe this load...

Greetings,

I am Maj. Timothy Banya, the commander and head of the Secret Unit in charge of diamond dealing for the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) of Sierra-Leone. I was working directly with the former Rebel Leader Foday Sankoh who is languishing in government custody and hope to be prosecuted for illegal diamond dealing and the killings of 21 people during a public demonstration outside his home in May this year. The RUF is now headed by Gen. Issa Sessey who is determined in bringing peace to Sierra Leone, he signed cease- fire agreement with the government on Friday 10th Nov., 2000 and instructed us that peace must returned to our fatherland after nine-years of conflict, pledging to allow U.N. troops an hindered access throughout the Sierra-Leone. This you can confirm from BBC and CNN. At my disposal right now, I am trapped with large quantity of unpolished diamond and millions of United States dollars that is in cash and because of the situation of things in my Country, the possibility of investing these funds here is highly limited, hence the decision to contact you arises. At this juncture, I am soliciting for your assistance to enable me legitimize and entrust in your care for investment US$12.5 million dollars (Twelve Million Five Hundred Thoudand United State Dollars). I accept to concede some percentage to you for your materials and logistics involvement. Kindly revert to me if you are interested so that we can arrange for a meeting and how you can receive the consignments.

Best regards,

Maj. Timothy Banya

Hmmmm.  In this letter, Major Timothy Banya states that he is the "Commander and head of the 'Secret Unit in charge of diamond dealing for the Revolutionary United Front (RUF)'".  Sounds pretty important to me!  Ooops!   He just told me about a supposedly secret organization!  I bet he gets in a lot of trouble for that!  Well, besides the bad grammar and English, it looks and sounds kind of authentic, don't you think?  Someone went to a lot of imaginative talent to put this together, and it wasn't even April 1st!  I'm marginally impressed.   The believability of it all went down the hill when I checked the return email address; abhhnov@email.com.   I didn't know that guerilla fighters had Email!  Must be on all of those damn laptop computers that I'm always collecting in tents and buildings on Novalogic's DELTA FORCE 2 PC game that I play a lot!  : )  I'll post a pic soon of a guerilla computer in its natural habitat.

And since when did the title "rebel leader" become capitalized into "Rebel Leader"?  It isn't like this is "Senior Systems Analyst" or something 'proper', this is the guy who tells a bunch of other guys what to do and they make their living by stealing and hiding in the jungle.  I don't think that the job title 'rebel leader' should be capitalized here.  I mean, what?  Is the guy going to one day turn in a resume for this kind of work?  Get real.

"I work for Foday Sankoh."

Hmmm.  Just doesn't have the same air of nastiness of someone telling you "I work for Kaiser Sosee." does, hmmmm?

Foday Sankoh sounds like a coffee selection in a bad resturant in a third world country.

"What kind of coffee do you have today?"
"Foday we got Sankoh!"
"Never mind, I'll just have a glass of luke warm brownish tap water, please.   And two dysentary tablets if you have them."

I had a good chuckle and kept the email to show my wife.  Then, two days later, I received this follow-up email.  Now, mind you, I never even replied to the first email so this is what made it all the more strange.

Greetings,

It is with strict confidence and trust that I wish to contact you seeking for your assistance to help as regards an investment opportunity. I sincerely hope that this letter will not come as a surprise to you, or cause you any embarrassment since we neither knew each other before, nor have had any previous contact or correspondence. I would appreciate your benevolence in giving this matter the much-needed attention as I am presently in a difficult situation and need your assistance and guidance urgently.

I am Mrs. Ndaye Banya, wife of Maj. Timothy Banya, the former commander and head of the Secret Unit in charge of Diamond dealing for the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) of Sierra- Leone. My husband was formerly working directly with the former Rebel Leader Mr. Foday Sankoh who is presently in government custody. The government intends trying Mr. Sankoh for illegal diamond dealing and especially for the killing of 21 people during a public demonstration outside his home in May last year which subsequently lead to this arrest. As the situation is, my husband is very much likely to be prosecuted alongside for activities in the diamond mining. The RUF is now headed by Gen. Issa Sessey who is determined in bringing peace to Sierra Leone, he signed a cease-fire agreement with the government on Friday 10th Nov., 2000 and instructed that peace must returned to our fatherland after nine-years conflict, pledging to allow U.N. troops unhindered access throughout Sierra-Leone.

My fear is that the government will try Mr. Sankoh and that my husband may also be prosecuted alongside and our assets may be confiscated. Also all accounts abroad and locally traceable to our name and families may also be frozen given the circumstances. In view of this development, I am trapped with about US$20,000,000.00 (Twenty Million United States Dollars) that is in cash in boxed containers. As the situation is I do not have the know-how to move this money without any trace to our name. The boxed containers were sealed, and packaged by Tim before moving over to the north such that in the event of any rebel insurgence, they can be easily buried in the ground without the material used in the packaging getting damaged due to its resistance to heat, rust and tear. My situation is very desperate, as I cannot leave Sierra Leone because of the house arrest I am under. In the light of above, I am soliciting your assistance and partnership to move this money out of Sierra Leone as both of us can make a fortune.

I would require your assistance in terms of logistics and materials to enhance the safe movement of the items from Sierra Leone. Therefore, contact me immediately, if you are able and interested in assisting me. Kindly contact me preferably using my alternative email address at nbanyand@usa.com, as soon as possible. Thanks for your anticipated understanding and assistance.

Yours faithfully,

MRS. N. BANYA

Well, I guess in this letter things have gotten pretty grim for Major Banya.   We no longer have $12.5 million dollars of diamonds, now we have $20 million US dollars wrapped up and ready to go!  Gosh, this guy is a fast worker!  And not to mention how he has converted twelve and a half million dollars in diamonds into twenty million dollars cash, generally, when you have to sell something fast, you lose money.   I could see going from twenty million worth of diamonds to twelve and a half million worth cash, not the other way around.  I don't know, maybe this guy is a shrewd businessman after all...

So, now, the Banyas don't need me to smuggle in $12.5 million dollars of diamonds anymore, now they need me to go and pick up $20 million dollars and put it in my bank for safe keeping and give it back to them (at a profit) when they need it.

Right.  I bet if I responded to this, they would ask for a 'good faith' payment of several hundred or thousand dollars, 'just to prove my sincerity in this deal' and after I sent them the money, I would never see any of it again, let along millions worth in cash or diamonds.  People are sheep.  They really are...

Did you notice the other change of events in the past 48 hours?  You see, here his wife, says that Major Banya is now the "the former commander and head of the Secret Unit in charge of Diamond dealing for the Revolutionary United Front (RUF) of Sierra- Leone."  In the letter above, he is THE Commander.   I guess when the powers that be found out he was broadcasting his plans and info about his secret organization all over the world via Email in a vain attempt to find someone to help him smuggle in and dispense nearly 13 million American dollars (is that adjusted or not?) worth of diamonds, they took away his title.  A few days ago, he was THE Commander of this super secret organization.  Two days later, his wife states that he is now the FORMER Commander of this organization.  Guy can't even hold a job for two days and you think I'm going to trust him with any type of business involving guns and millions of dollars in a country where they probably don't even speak English?  He must be a graduate of DeVry Business Institute...

Yeah.  Get real.  My friend in the CIA is going to have a litter of kittens when I forward this to her ... : )
