"Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days... but I'm
here to tell you that fast is better.  I've always believed this, in spite of the trouble
it's caused me.  Being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being
squeezed out of a tube.  That is why God made fast motorcycles ...

2004 HONDA CBR600RR- "Black Rain", my escape machine for when I need to be alone, have some time to think or just need to de-stress.  I just throw my legs over her seat, stab the starter and find some moss and shadow draped back country two lane to slowly, quietly ride from twist to curve on.  She's descended from a world class championship winning design and powered by a cutting edge technology derived, compact, ultra-high compression, 599cc inline four cylinder.  She's liquid cooled with double overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, digital fuel injection, eight fuel injectors, 32bit microprocessor, three dimensional real time fuel mapping, a large volume ram equipped cold air box, six speed transmission, hydraulic clutch, center up exhaust, and massive triple disc brakes (the front brakes are heavy duty four piston units).  Ten and a half seconds through the quarter mile, top speed in excess of 165mph and all weighing in at a little over four hundred pounds wet ... all this and 42 plus miles per gallon fuel economy.  She's whisper quiet at idle, smooth as silk at all speeds and screams like a raped banshee when you roll the throttle backwards to its full stop.  Honda really does build the stuff of dreams.

1986 PONTIAC FIREBIRD TRANS AM-   Take a look at this all American classic sports car; a black and gold 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am powered by a 9.5:1 compression ratio, High Output (205hp) LB9 5.0 liter (305cid) TPI Tuned Port Injected small block V8 backed by the (mandatory for that model year) MX0 700R4 four speed automatic overdrive transmission.  She's factory equipped with the legendary WS6 special performance option package which includes power assisted four wheel disc brakes (10.5 inches in diameter on all four corners), 36mm front sway bar, 24mm rear sway bar, special performance rated shocks and struts, specific coil springs, 12.7:1 quick ratio power steering and the super heavy duty (stronger than even the Dana 44) Australian-built 9 bolt Borg Warner limited slip differential  with 3.27 high speed / performance gears.

The TA also sports the comparatively rare extra cost Recaro adjustable sport bucket seat optioned tan cloth interior (in its last year of being offered by the factory), top of the line UT4 ETR radio with UQ7 factory subwoofer system, power antenna and removable T-tops.  Follow along in the adventure of finding, buying, owning, and restoring back to full factory stock this particular Pontiac Firebird Trans Am ... a classic all-American grand touring sport coupe from way back in my teenage / high school years (aka "the 1980's").

1991 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z07 -  This legendary American classic is one of only seven hundred and thirty-three Z07 optioned coupes produced in 1991 and has enough testosterone to grow balls on a nun.  She's powered by the 10.0:1 compression ratio, High Output (250hp) 5.7 liter (350 cubic inch) L98 TPI Tuned Port Injected small block V8 and backed by the ZF German-built world class six speed manual transmission.  Her pedigree includes quick ratio power steering, FE7 high performance suspension, FX3 select ride control, 3.45 rear axle ratio, 8.5 inch ring gear in a limited slip Dana 44 carrier, J55 high performance brake package (13" heavy duty front rotors with twin piston aluminum calipers), JL9 Bosch ABS II series anti-lock four wheel disc brakes, KC4 engine oil cooler, finned power steering cooler, 105 amp generator, 17 x 9.5" sawblade styled aluminum wheels, and the much coveted Z07 adjustable handling package.

This Vette is equipped with the base tan colored leather interior, electronic air conditioning, all power, dual power seats and the Delco Bose Gold audio system.
My reasons for wanting a 1991 Corvette were simple; it was the best of all worlds as far as the L98 powered C4 was concerned.  The 1991 had the updated ZR1 styling, the '90 plus digital / analog combo dash (so much nicer than the 1984 to 1989 Atari-inspired digital dash), speed density (no MAF), and it looked like it was doing Mach 1.4 standing still.  I was lucky enough to, well, luck up on a 1991 Z07 optioned coupe on Ebay and to be the highest bidder, taking the rare Corvette into my stable for a paltry $8100.  What did I get for my money?  Well, for one the Vette went for $1400 below NADA loan value.  The Vette was a two (adult) owner car, had only 49,000 original miles on it, clean CarFax, had never been in a wreck and came with all the factory go-fast goodies.

She's also the future home of the 406cid Lingenfelter small block (detailed below).

6.6 LITER (406 CUBIC INCH) LINGENFELTER FUEL INJECTED SMALL BLOCK- Oh, just your average 400 cubic inch small block Chevy, bored .030 over and retrofitted with a hydraulic full roller LPE camshaft, roller lifters, worked aluminum D-port Corvette heads, TPIS "Big Mouth" aluminum intake, Accel Super Ram plenum, and 1000cfm billet aluminum throttle body.  Currently this torque monster is gathering dust in my garage but in the near future I'm going to shoe her into my '91 Z07 Corvette (above) with the goal of eleven second quarter miles and over 175mph top end in full street driven trim.  The last time I checked, there were only two Lingenfelter 406 small blocks still left in existence; I own one and SUMMIT Performance Parts has the other.  A rare motor indeed and a genuine piece of performance history built by a modern legend.  RIP, John.
